“Like full-scale aircraft racing at Reno the image above that shows a Supermarine S6.b leading a Macchi, gets my blood boiling.”
~ Bob Martin
Thank you for your interest in the Schneider Cup Association. Our mission is to “Promote Model Aviation Through Early Aviation History”.
Below you will find information pertaining to how to keep abreast of all that is happening and everything we have planned for the future.
Our website is a good place to go if you’d like to learn more about how we got to where we are today. It’s laid out in three main sections.
- The first section is all about the original Schneider Trophy races of 1913 to 1931 also known as the Schneider Cup. This event more than any other in aviation history accelerated the development and technological advancement of the airplane.
- Next is the section on the Schneider Cup Giant Scale RC Reenactments of 1989 to 1992. This is the main section of the website and is where you’ll discover the history of these world-class Radio Control events.
- The third and final section is all about the “London Bridge Seaplane Classic”. We had to include this section in order to tell the whole story because without this event the reenactments may never have been born.
We also have a Facebook Page and a Facebook Group for those of you that use social media. Each serves a different purpose and we highly recommend you join both as we post different content on each of them. We currently have two build logs of Schneider racers which are being built as you read this for the upcoming 30-year reunion which will take place in November of 2019 at Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Over time we will be developing a wider footprint on social media and we will add those options as they are made available but for now, you can check out the two options below.
Our Facebook Page
Our Facebook Page is another source of up to date information. Social Media is a great way to quickly share things that we find online that we feel may be of interest to our community. Be sure to like our page when you’re there.
Our Facebook Group
Our Facebook Group is a place for two-way communication with us and other like-minded individuals in our community. We welcome and encourage your participation in the group. It’s your chance to be heard.
Okay, if you’ve read this far you deserve a real treat and we have one for you. It an excerpt from RC Video Magazine Volume 15, it’s very well done and begins with an explanation of the original full-size Schneider Trophy races from their very conception in 1912 to the final event in 1931.
From there you’ll be transported ahead in time to the very first Schneider Cup Giant Scale RC reenactment in 1989. A younger Bob Martin introduces this portion of video which showcases many of the awesome giant scale aircraft that were built to take part in this very unique event.
This video can be viewed near the bottom of our home page which you can access here.
